If you are longing for a taste of sunshine then you may be pleased to hear that March marks the start of meteorological Spring, so fingers crossed it won’t be long before we all start to come out of hibernation.
When more light hits the back of our eyes, we naturally become more alert, we start to feel brighter, we begin to be more active and our motivation tends to return.
So, it is no wonder the traditional concept of Spring Cleaning came into being. Now any of you who know me well appreciate that I am quite anti housework as it is repetitive, chemical laden and posturally very challenging.
In my view delegation always seems advantageous, if however, that is not possible then pacing yourself and keeping on top of things is your best option.
But because cleaners clean rather than tidy thankfully I am happy to get involved on this front, especially as tidying up does have its merits.
Living amongst mess and clutter is an outward expression of your state of mind and once ingrained one exaggerates the other, so by changing your environment you can actually have a positive effect on brain function and mental health.
With this in mind, if you can make the decision to devote a specified period of time, even just ten minutes, to clearing a troublesome corner of your house, then you will benefit by:
A, Clearing your mind because you are focusing on a simple task, making this almost a form of mindfulness,
B, Staying on track, even if you start to feel overwhelmed, using an alarm can help you stick it out until the buzzer sounds, letting you know that it is time for a break and allowing you to reap the rewards of that proud of your achievements feeling,
C, Renewing your aesthetic appreciation of your surroundings, once you have finished the job, can go a long way to increasing your ability to relax in your own space,
Whatever you may think of Feng Shui advocates, living among chaos has been scientifically proven to increase stress and anxiety. So they are definitely onto something with regards to promoting the health benefits of creating a clean and clear space in which to live.
This is especially important if your home is also your office, as it is essential to define your space, so that you have an area where you can breathe and relax, plus a separate environment in which you work.
So why not take action today and improve your environment for the benefit of your health.
